What is ReFRESH?
Refresh is a dance competition aimed at primary and secondary schools. Participating schools will choreograph a 2- 3 minute dance based on one of the Olympic and Paralympic values and to a score chosen by the hr1 team. These will be filmed by schools in a location of their choice and sent to the hr1 team who will shortlist entries based on creativity, quality of performance, entertainment value and how well the piece reflects the Olympic value. Please note we are looking for straight filming of the entire piece and not an artistic ‘dance film’. A winner and runner-up will be chosen by a Judging Panel from BBC West Midlands, BBC Radio and local Paralympians. Each school can only entre one group. This can be teacher or pupil led.
What Can My School Win?
The school with the winning film entry will win:
- The chance to perform their piece live on the main stage at the evening show of the hr1 final event on 30 June 2012 held on Castle Green, Hereford, priceless.
- The chance for a 2Faced Dance Company dance artist to work with the school prior to the performance to refine and rehearse the piece to the highest level worth £250.00
- Six free dance workshops lead by a 2Faced Dance Company dance artist in Autumn term 2012 to the value of £300.00
- Four x VIP tickets to the hr1 final event to the value of £200.00
- Free tickets for all performers & chaperones to the hr1 final event (daytime festival and evening show) to the value of £300.00
The runner up school will win:
- The chance to perform their piece live at the day-time element of the hr1 final event on 30 June 2012 held on Castle Green, Hereford, priceless
- Two x VIP tickets to the hr1 final event to the value of £100.00
- Free tickets for all performers & chaperones to the hr1 final event daytime festival to the value of £150.00
All schools will have:
Extracts of their filmed dance works featured in the Refresh dance film which will be shown in the Dance Film Tent at the hr1 Final Event.
Deadlines
- The deadline for schools to enter Refresh is 24 February 2012
- The deadline for filmed submissions from participating schools is 23 March 2012
- Schools will be notified of the result 20 April 2012
