Tamsin Fitzgerald - Artistic Director
Tamsin trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. After graduating Tamsin set up 2Faced Dance Company in 1999. Tamsin has choreographed four major works for 2Faced Dance Company including State of Matter, Still Breathing and Third which have toured across the UK and Europe. In 2007 Tamsin received the Rayne Fellowship for Choreography and worked with Australian Dance Theatre, The Ballet Boyz and Birmingham Rep. In 2008 Tamsin choreographed 'Watch This Space' alongside Hofesh Shechter for the Birmingham International Dance Festival and soon after became Associate Artist at DanceXchange in Birmingham. In 2009 Tamsin choreographed 'Soap The Show' that soon went on to have a West End and Edinburgh Festival Run in 2010. Tamsin has since choreographed and taught at The Place, NSCD, The Centre for Advanced training in Birmingham as well as extensively in schools and colleges across the UK. She has been guest speaker at the National Youth Dance Conference and at the National Dance Teachers association (NDTA) and is a member of the West Midlands Youth Dance Advisory Board. Tamsin's first book, Hip-Hop and Urban Dance was published in 2009 in both the UK and USA.
Melanie Evans - Administration Officer
Melanie is the Company Administrator and joined 2Faced Dance Company in 2006 initially for 4 hours per week. Since that time the company has grown and she now works 20 hours per week. From 2012 the company will be regularly funded by the Arts Council and is a NPO.
Each year she organised the 2Faced Summer School which sees 75 children from ages 7years upwards participate in a week long course culminating in a show at the end of the week.
Dan Lowenstein - Marketing Officer
Dan trained through 2Faced and has been with the company since he was 17. He works for 2Faced Dance Company as a Dancer, Teacher and Marketing Officer. His dance credits include 'Watch this Space' with Hofesh Shechter (2008), the MTV Europe Music Awards (2005), 2Faced Dance Company UK tour of ‘State of Matter’ and ‘Still Breathing’ and performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2005 – 2009) and performance with world renowned popper Salah at the’ International Dance Festival Birmingham’ (2010). Dan sees himself as an explosive fusion dancer, fusing together bboying and contemporary dance to create a new form of movement and style.
Nathan French - Education Officer
Nathan is one of the original members of 2Faced taking part in the first ever schools project in 2001. Nathan has trained through the company and is the Company’s Education Manager and a Teacher as well as a Dancer. Nathan has performed for 2Faced at the MTV Music Awards, Lisbon (2005), ‘The International Dance Festival Birmingham’ (2005) – Hofesh Schecter and ‘The International Dance Festival Birmingham’ (2009) – ‘Put Your Foot Down’ with Salah. Nathan danced in a full run of 2Faced performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 2004-2009. Nathan has also toured 2Faced Dance Company’s ‘State of Matter’ and ‘Still Breathing’ across the UK and has performed nationally and internationally with 2Faced’s latest works ‘Third’ and ‘Infract’.
Fiona Hay - Edcation Officer & Youth Leader
Fiona trained through 2Faced Girls Dance Company from 2004-2006 before undertaking her BA(Hons) in Contemporary Dance & Media Communications at Bath Spa University graduating in July 2009. At university Fiona founded the first hip hop dance company where she gained teaching and performance skills which resulted in the company becoming a successful award winning dance group. She is passionate about choreographing and teaching innovative, original dance work, which fuses both hip hop, contemporary dance and media together. Fiona leads a number of the community dance groups and projects for hr1, including choreographing work for the final event. She is also a member of the semi-professional company and mentors the hr1 Apprentices.
Jamie Thompson - Dance Development Artist
Jamie is Apprentice Dance Development Artist at 2Faced Dance Company. She studied on the Foundation and BPA (Hons) course in Contemporary Dance at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance graduating in July 2011. Jamie is passionate about teaching, performing and choreography and is excited to teach and perform as part of the hr1 project.
